A Dream Realized: Partnering with DukeⓇ University
A Dream Realized: Partnering with DukeⓇ University
Partnering with Duke University is a dream come true for me. This collaboration is a huge deal for me, both as a company and as a die-hard Duke fan. Ever since I was six or seven, Duke has been a huge part of my life—I grew up going to games with my dad, attended their basketball camps, and I even snuck into Coach K’s office as a kid. I may or may not have “borrowed” a rock from the foundation of the Sebastian Coe Building during construction.
Both my high school and college basketball numbers were 22 because my favorite player was Jay Williams. Later, I was able to briefly mentor former Duke player Harry Giles, which gave me the opportunity to return the favor to my dad and finally take him to a Duke game. Just this past season, at just eight weeks pregnant, I found myself back at Duke for the Duke vs. Syracuse game.
This partnership with Duke isn't just a professional milestone; it's a full-circle moment that ties together my personal and professional love for the Blue Devils. The impact Duke has had on my life is immeasurable, and I am beyond excited to see where this collaboration will take us. The journey from sneaking into Coach K’s office to officially partnering with Duke University is nothing short of surreal. Here's to many more milestones and memories with the Blue Devils!
Monkeeroos Partners with Bundle of Joy to Support New Mothers at High Point Regional Hospital
Monkeeroos Partners with Bundle of Joy to Support New Mothers at High Point Regional Hospital
Monkeeroos is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Bundle of Joy, a nonprofit organization founded in 2023 by Morgan Qubein, Tori Ilderton, and Lauren Britton. This collaboration aims to provide essential support to delivering mothers at High Point Regional Hospital, helping them to meet their newborns' basic needs and alleviate some of the stress and challenges of early motherhood.
Bundle of Joy is dedicated to ensuring that every new mother at High Point Regional Hospital receives a comprehensive bundle of essentials. Each bundle includes swaddles, diapers, wipes, a thermometer, diaper cream, nipple pads, a water bottle, and a Monkeeroos onesie. These items are thoughtfully packaged in a versatile diaper bag that transforms into a changing station or bassinet, promoting safe sleep practices for infants.
Studies have shown that mothers who cannot provide for the basic needs of their newborns struggle with postpartum depression at a higher rate, experience higher levels of stress, and lack competence. Addressing these issues is a core mission of Bundle of Joy, and the most crucial element of each bundle is the information packet included. This packet provides resources and guidance for mothers on where they can seek additional help and support beyond the initial bundle" says Lauren Britton, co-founder of Bundle of Joy and President & CEO of Monkeeroos.
In addition to the bundles, Bundle of Joy also provides car seats and pack-and-plays to those in need, ensuring that mothers and their babies have access to vital resources for their health and safety.
Monkeeroos is proud to be part of this meaningful initiative. Every purchase from Monkeeroos contributes to providing diapers and clothes to mothers in need. This partnership underscores our commitment to giving back to the community and supporting families during one of the most critical times in their lives.

Together, Monkeeroos and Bundle of Joy are making a difference, one bundle at a time.
Bamboo Viscose vs. Bamboo Lyocell: Why Monkeeroos Lyocell is the Best Choice for Your Kids and the Planet
If you're on the hunt for comfy and eco-friendly fabrics for your kids, you've probably come across bamboo-based options like bamboo viscose and bamboo lyocell. They sound similar, but there's a big difference between them! Let’s break it down and see why Monkeeroos lyocell is a fantastic pick for both your little ones and the environment.
Bamboo Viscose: The Basics
Bamboo viscose (or bamboo rayon) has been around for a while and is known for its soft feel. But, how it’s made might make you think twice:
Chemical Heavy: Bamboo is turned into a pulp with the help of strong chemicals like sodium hydroxide. These can be rough on the environment and your children's skin.
Process: The pulp becomes a thick solution and is then spun into fibers.
Environmental Concerns: The chemicals used can be harsh and harmful if not managed properly, and they’re not great for the workers making the fabric either.
While it feels nice and soft, bamboo viscose’s production isn’t the most eco-friendly option.
Bamboo Lyocell: The Upgrade
Bamboo lyocell takes things up a notch in terms of sustainability and safety. Here’s how it’s made:
Eco-friendly Process: Instead of nasty chemicals, it uses a non-toxic solvent. This is great news for the planet and your children!
Closed-loop System: Most of the water and solvent used are recycled, which means less waste and pollution.
Less Environmental Impact: Overall, the process is much cleaner and greener compared to bamboo viscose.
Bamboo lyocell is not just soft but also better for the environment and your children, making it a win-win.
Why Monkeeroos Lyocell is Awesome for Your Kids:
Here’s why Monkeeroos lyocell is a game-changer:
1. Super Comfy for Your Little Ones
Soft as a Cloud: Monkeeroos lyocell is ultra-soft, which is perfect for your kids’ sensitive skin.
Breathable: It keeps the air flowing, so your child stays cool and comfy, whether they’re playing or napping.
Hypoallergenic: It’s less likely to cause allergies or irritations, making it a safe choice for kids with sensitive skin.
2. Kind to the Planet
Eco-friendly Production: The process used to make Monkeeroos lyocell is super sustainable. They recycle almost all the water and solvents, so there's minimal waste.
Biodegradable: When it’s time to say goodbye, this fabric breaks down naturally, so it won’t sit in a landfill forever.
Renewable Resource: Bamboo grows fast and needs less water and no pesticides, making it a great sustainable choice.
3. Ethically Made
Safe for Workers: The non-toxic solvents used in making lyocell are safer for the people who work with them.
Less Pollution: The efficient system reduces harmful emissions, helping to keep our environment cleaner.
Wrap-Up
In a nutshell, choosing Monkeeroos lyocell means your kids get super comfy, skin-friendly clothing that’s also great for the planet. While bamboo viscose offers softness, its production process has some major downsides. Monkeeroos' bamboo lyocell stands out with its eco-friendly production, comfort, and sustainability. It’s a smart pick for happy kids and a happier Earth!

Embracing Diversity: Navigating Black History Month as a White Mother to a Biracial Child
Introduction: As we celebrate Black History Month, it's an opportune time for reflection, education, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all. This month can be especially difficult to navigate in today’s heightened awareness society, but that is a good thing, right? It means we care more. It means we’re trying harder to empathize, but also trying harder to actually make a meaningful difference/change.
For me, as a white mom to a biracial child, this month is extremely important. It is important to me to make sure that I honor and uplift my child and her entirety. It is important to me to express to her how beautiful, strong, intelligent and powerful her black truly is. To me, my child is not mixed raced or biracial – my daughter IS white and my daughter IS black. To some, she has been seen as not “black enough” and to others not “white enough”, but as a mother it is my job to express that ALL OF HER is ENOUGH. I am sure as she gets older, these discussions will change quite a bit – probably get a little harder, but for now we are simply trying to teach her love and respect for ALL of herself.
Some of the things we do as a family during the month of February, but also year round that could be useful to others:
Understanding & Teaching her the Significance of Black History Month: Start by exploring the origins and significance of Black History Month. Delve into the rich history, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals throughout the years. Understand that this celebration is not only about the past but also about acknowledging and uplifting the present and future narratives of the Black community. I lean heavily on my husband for his amazing story telling and ability to teach his history.
Open Conversations about Identity: Initiate open and honest conversations with your biracial child about their identity. Encourage them to embrace and celebrate their unique heritage, helping them develop a strong sense of self. Listen actively, learn from their experiences, and foster an environment where they feel comfortable expressing their feelings and questions. At her age, we haven’t had to have these tough conversations yet – her age sees past color and loves unconditionally. Each crayon may be a different color, yet they all live peacefully in the same box.
Educational Resources for All Ages: Curate a diverse collection of books, movies, and documentaries that highlight the experiences of Black individuals. Incorporate these resources into your child's education, promoting a well-rounded understanding of history and culture. Use this opportunity to learn alongside your child, fostering a shared journey of discovery. We have SOOO many amazing books about the beauty of her skin and her curly natural hair. We encourage her to read books about people who look like her and make her feel seen.
Celebrate Black Culture and Achievements: Participate in local events, virtual discussions, and activities that celebrate Black culture and achievements. Attend cultural festivals, art exhibitions, or virtual events that showcase the talents and contributions of the Black community. This not only provides valuable exposure for your child but also strengthens your connection with the broader community. As she gets a little older we will definitely be looking to provide her with more experiences that will immerse her into her cultural both with art and exhibitions.
Support Black-Owned Businesses: Make a conscious effort to support Black-owned businesses in your community. Whether it's shopping for groceries, clothing, or services, choosing to support these businesses contributes to economic empowerment and community growth. Share your positive experiences to encourage others to do the same.
Cultivate an Inclusive Social Circle: Diversify your social circle to expose your child to a variety of perspectives and experiences. Attend community events, join parenting groups, or engage in online forums where your child can interact with peers from diverse backgrounds. Building a network that reflects the richness of diversity will create a more inclusive environment. To me, this might be the most important of all, as I credit this to my compassion. I grew up playing AAU basketball and attending a high school that was extremely diverse. It was because of simply living and growing up around different cultures that helped me realize that we are all equals. Most importantly, it taught me the right way to be an ally and the right way to fight for social justice.
Actively Listen and Amplify Voices: Practice active listening when engaging in discussions about racial issues. Amplify the voices of Black individuals, particularly those with lived experiences. Use your platform to share their stories, perspectives, and achievements, contributing to a more inclusive narrative. From teachers, to coaches, to peers to my family on Trey’s side – this has been HUGELY impactful for me. The more we learn, the more we understand and the better we can do to move forward together. Step outside of your comfort zone and listen to those around you who have so much to teach.
It really doesn’t matter if you are the mom to a biracial child, or even a mom at all - Black History Month is an opportunity to learn, grow, and actively contribute to a more inclusive society. For me, embracing diversity goes beyond a single month—it's a lifelong commitment to fostering understanding, empathy, and unity in our shared journey toward a more equitable future.
So from my family to yours, Happy Black History Month!
Our Story: The Beginning VOL 1
Introduction: Welcome to Monkeeroos. Join us as we dive into the Who’s, the What’s and the Why’s to how we went from idea, to garage, to warehouse in less than 2 years!
The Spark of Inspiration: Every great venture begins with a spark of inspiration, and for Monkeeroos, it was no different. For us, our spark came during a pretty dark time – For the 11 years leading up to Monkeeroos, I had worked as a furniture sales rep with a business partner who I thought hung the moon. I was making good 6 figures and had built a life of comfort and happiness. My husband, Trey, had just retired from a 9 year overseas professional basketball career so that we could finally settle down and start our family. Life was PERFECT; he was getting to take time off before jumping into a 9-5 and we were getting ready to have our first baby. Our house is on the market and we are PUMPED to start the build of our forever home! Then – BOOM, Covid.
I have a sneaky suspicion we are the only ones with an “Oh Crap, Covid” moment, but regardless, this is ours. My partner and I weren’t seeing eye to eye on some critical issues and in April 2021, he fired me. Here comes the OH CRAP. What now? We have a 4 month old baby and no home.
Pretty unsure of where my next paycheck would come from, we settled into a rental house and I told my husband that I wanted to take the money we made from selling our house and invest in a start-up company. I was TERRIFIED he would laugh in my face or write me off, but instead, he started diving deeper into the thought of this company than I even had. He was coming up with name suggestions and telling me we could use the garage as a warehouse and so on. It was his belief in me and maybe a little bit of secrecy on my behalf that allowed us to fill up said garage in about 60 days after my initial “let’s do this” conversation. As the truck was being unloaded with our first 5 prints, Trey’s face quickly went from excitement to “what on Earth have you gotten us into”!?
Let’s back up just a second though – WHY bamboo you’re asking? Well, Amelia was quite the large child, being born at 9lb 3oz…3 WEEKS EARLY…she never even fit in NB clothing. (Don’t mind the $80 embroidered going home outfit my loving child lol)..any who – she was outgrowing clothes after just 1 wear and we were buying UP. My sister actually taught me to cut the toes off of our rompers, so she could wear them because her feet were so big, none of them fit. INSERT A GIFTED PAIR OF BAMBOO JAMMIES HERE. The rest is history you guys. Literally, 1 pair in, I was like “what is this magical voodoo material?” She was wearing it for over a month (ended up being over a year) and it was soft…my goodness it was so soft. So I told you earlier, I was into furniture. Cool huh? What I didn’t tell you was that I had been sourcing furniture from China and had a Chinese partner who is the Bomb.com and can do anything he puts his mind to…so. I call my Chinese partner up and I’m like “G, what do you know about this magical plant called bamboo?” – he thinks I am insane but goes and finds me a few factories to sample. So we order a few samples. Some of them are REALLY bad and I get discouraged telling G “You really should stick to furniture – this was a bad idea” ….last sample of the original 6 arrive and my lord, I tell you “its BUTTER…its better than the pairs I had bought from LARGE companies. I couldn’t believe it. “Sorry G, you win!”. Who do I send the PO to?

Embrace Comfort and Sustainability: 5 Compelling Reasons to Choose Bamboo Pajamas
Introduction: In a world that's increasingly prioritizing sustainability and comfort, bamboo pajamas have emerged as a popular choice for our eco-conscious consumers. As we become more mindful of our environmental impact, we are all searching for ways to do our part. Bamboo pajamas are at the forefront of this movement, providing not only luxurious comfort but also a host of benefits for both you and the planet. In this blog post, we explore five compelling reasons why choosing bamboo pajamas is a smart and environmentally-friendly decision.
Exceptional Softness: Bamboo fabric is renowned for its exceptional softness. Choosing bamboo pajamas means treating your skin to a gentle touch that rivals even the softest cotton. The fibers in bamboo fabric are finer and rounder, creating a silky-smooth texture that enhances your sleep experience. If you prioritize comfort in your sleepwear, bamboo pajamas are a delightful choice.
Breathability for a Good Night's Sleep: Bamboo fabric is highly breathable and naturally regulates temperature. This means that bamboo pajamas keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, ensuring a comfortable and uninterrupted night's sleep. The breathability of bamboo fabric makes it an ideal choice for those who struggle with overheating during the night.
Environmentally Friendly Choice: Bamboo is a sustainable resource that grows rapidly without the need for pesticides or fertilizers. It requires significantly less water than traditional cotton farming, making it an environmentally friendly choice. Additionally, bamboo plants help reduce carbon dioxide levels and release more oxygen into the atmosphere, contributing to a healthier planet. By choosing bamboo pajamas, you're making a small but impactful step towards a greener lifestyle.
Hypoallergenic Properties: If you have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies, bamboo pajamas can be a game-changer. Bamboo fabric has natural hypoallergenic properties, making it less likely to cause skin irritations. It's an excellent choice for those with skin conditions or anyone looking for a gentler alternative to conventional fabrics.
Durable and Long-Lasting: Bamboo fabric is surprisingly durable despite its softness. Choosing bamboo pajamas means investing in a long-lasting wardrobe staple. The fibers are strong and resilient, ensuring that your sleepwear retains its quality wash after wash. This durability not only saves you money in the long run but also reduces the environmental impact associated with frequent clothing replacements.
Conclusion: As our consumers become more conscious of the environmental and personal impact of their choices, bamboo pajamas stand out as a sustainable and luxurious option. From exceptional softness to eco-friendly production, bamboo sleepwear offers a host of benefits. Make the switch to bamboo pajamas, and not only will you enjoy a more comfortable night's sleep, but you'll also be contributing to a more sustainable and mindful world.
